Celtic Country Wines, Windy Rise Winery, Beulah, New Castle Emlyn, Ceredigion, Wales, UK. |
Celtic Country Wines produces fruit wines and liqueurs and was established in 1985 by husband and wife team, Neal & June Shipp. This originally home-based small-scale operation has grown into a dedicated winery and production facility and employs a few more people including two of their three sons, Richard and Darren. In 2010, as part of their 25-year anniversary they rebranded to “Celteg”. |
Unknown but uses a secret family recipe that’s been handed down through 3 generations (and now looks like it’ll be handed down to the 4th generation, but not too soon we hope!). The ruby red spirit is presented in tall clear cylindrical bottles. |

Unknown but includes sloeberries. |
Celteg refers to its Welsh Celtic origins and the Sloe refers to the key flavoring botanical. |
On the nose is red berry fruit. On the palate this semi sweet spirit has clear plum tones with faint gin notes in the background. The close is heavy and warming with hints of spice and faint citrus. This was tasted back in the late 1990’s when it was available at 20% ABV and it made a fine example of a sloe Gin. This certainly makes our top 10 and is highly recommended – we think it’s time we tasted another bottle soon! |
