Scottish Liqueur Centre

The Scottish Liqueur Centre is a Scottish based producer of blended whisky and liqueurs, including malt whisky liqueurs, and perhaps are best known for their liqueur called Columba Cream. The company was founded in 1982, originally based on the Island of Mull, in the West of Scotland, just off of the mainland. The production facilities are not open to the public but their products can be sampled and purchased in the nearby Scottish Liqueur Shop at the Perthshire Visitor Centre.

Managing Director Kenny Mackay has a long background in the Whisky industry and this is used to good effect on behalf of the shareholders. The Mackay family along with the Morrison family, another group with a rich history in the Whisky industry, are also the major shareholders in a blending and bottling plant in Perth, Scotland.

Using their own recipe this is hand made with natural ingredients including real fruit and soft Perthshire water. We believe the fruit is infused in an undisclosed London Dry Gin and left to mature before being bottled.

The deep red Gin is presented in a clear squat cylindrical bottle, with a long neck and a small white label.

Unknown but includes blackberries and juniper berries.

Based in Scotland and selling liqueurs easily lends itself to the name “Scottish Liqueur Centre”, whilst Bramble is the common name for the blackberry bush, the fruit of which is the key botanical flavoring for this Gin.

Tasting Notes

On the nose is a clear deep red fruit (blackberry) aroma. On the palate this medium sweet spirit has a strong fruity blackberry flavor with a faint hint of juniper berries in the background. On the close the red fruit (blackberry) flavor continues with a drying finish.

This is a traditional blackberry flavoured Gin and is a good drink for sipping neat. Blackberry is usually quite sweet and is not to everyone’s liking but this manages to tone the sweetness down a few degrees to offer a slightly drier version than normal. We suspect this is the result of their recipe using less sugar and more Gin than expected. Overall this makes for a good all round blackberry spirit and I particularly useful when mixed with sparkling drink such as soda water, tonic water, lemonade or (dry) sparkling wines.
